Audi used Frankfurt Motor Show to show off more than their gorgeous cars and introduced their V8 ‘cylinders-on-demand’ unit. The new Audi engine is said to replace the current V10 powertrain. Audi dealer Norfolk understands that the engine is one of the most integral parts of any vehicle and agrees that it should be boasted about in isolation.
The engines will make appearances in the new Audi S6 and the S8 which are said to arrive in the UK early next year. The new and used Audi Norwich dealer is excited to show it off to their customers. The new Audi S7 Sportback will be another recipient of the new engine. The new Audi S6 and A7 Sportback will develop 415bhp while the Audi S8 will produce 514bhp.
Audi say that it is cost less to develop this fuel reducing engine that it would have done if they were to produce a hybrid engine. It is believed that up to 20% less fuel will be consumed with this new powertrain.
The fuel savings can be attributed to Audi’s weight saving programme which the new powertrain is a big contributor towards. Variable camshaft profiles also help to save fuel where it can by isolating cylinders for lighter loads. The V8 is for high performance driving and a V4 kicks in when the driver is just cruising.
